Italy’s cybersecurity agency has reported an increase in attacks by activist hacker groups. The attacks of Russian origin targeted websites owned by Italian institutions, the agency reported Monday, without giving details of the targets of the attacks.
The agency recommended paying close attention to protecting IT infrastructures and reviewing and strengthening protective measures against attacks. The cyberattacks may continue or become more intense in the coming months. Experts reported possible “DDoS” type attacks, where hackers bombard the server with tons of requests to bring the system to a halt.
The Vatican suffered computer network and website outages for days last week due to a cyber-attack. Also on Saturday, there were problems accessing the Holy See website “vatican.va”. Many pages could not be opened, when clicked, the message “404 Not Found” appeared.
