After sharp declines in the first two years of the pandemic, the number of road deaths has risen again this year. Between January 1 and December 3, 347 people died in accidents on Austrian roads.
In the comparative period of 2021 there were 342 road deaths, in 2020 a total of 327. In the eleven months before the pandemic, the number was higher.
According to statistics from the Ministry of the Interior, there were 391 road deaths until December 3, 2019.
Lower Austria leads sad statistics
Last week, two pedestrians and a motorist were killed in traffic accidents. The most deaths this year were 91 in Lower Austria, 76 in Upper Austria and 66 in Styria.
So far this year there have been 29 road deaths in Tyrol, 19 in Carinthia, 18 in Burgenland and Salzburg and 17 in Vienna. In Vorarlberg, 13 people died in road accidents this year.
