Argentina’s Vice President, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, has been sentenced to 6 years in prison for irregularities in the road works concession during the presidency of her late husband, Néstor Kirchner, and herself, between 2003 and 2015.
In the verdict of the trial, which began in May 2019 and was highly questioned on the left due to the evidence used against the former president, the Federal Oral Court 2 of Buenos Aires also sentenced the former president to perpetual denial of holding public office.
Fernández de Kirchner will not go to prison, however, because she has privileges as president. Moreover, the sentence is not final and can be appealed in other cases. The vice president could even be a candidate in the next election if the appeal is not resolved.
