On Tuesday, a fire broke out in the rooms of an animal-loving family in St. Nikolai ob Draßling (district of Leibnitz) in Styria. The fire brigade could not save all the animals in time.
The couple were returning from shopping together around 7:30 pm when they noticed the smell of fire as they got out of the car. They alerted the emergency services, who were able to locate the source of the fire quickly. The fire broke out in the kitchen, probably due to a faulty socket distributor.
Parakeets died
Firefighters were able to bring the family’s two dogs to safety. However, all help came too late for the three budgerigars. They died in the fire. Due to the rapid arrival of the fire brigade, the fire was contained to the kitchen. This was heavily damaged, but there was hardly any damage to the other rooms.
