The factory that the car multinational Mercedes Benz has in Vitoria-Gasteiz has stopped production for another six days in the meantime December 15 and 22because of “the high stock accumulation existing” in the different markets where their products are sold.
The management of the company has communicated the decision by means of an information note to the staff.
Production is suspended at the expense of the stock exchange in three shifts on 15, 16, 19, 20, 21 and 22 December in the gross assembly, painting and final assembly sectors. In addition, the services planned for Saturday 17 December have been cancelled. The company had already planned a production stop from December 22 on the occasion of Christmas.
According to union sources, this fall in the production forecast is a continuation of what was already announced last September, when it was estimated that 146,758 vans instead of more than 158,000 calculated initially for the whole exercise.
The factory in Álava, the largest in the Basque Country with 5,000 employees, had already had to stop production on December 2 and 3, although in this case due to the impact of the metal strike in Bizkaia.
