Shocking accident Wednesday afternoon in the Mayrhofen ski area in the Tyrolean Zillertal: As the mountain railways report, a snowboarder collided with a snowplow and died. It is not yet clear how the accident could have happened.
“We are deeply shocked by this incident,” said those responsible for the Mayrhofner Bergbahnen in an initial statement. The exact cause of the accident has yet to be determined by the Alpine Police.
As the first information, the mountain railways reported that the snowboarder was on the upper part of piste 11 on the Horberg in Mayrhofen around 2:45 p.m. and collided with an oncoming snowplow. The victim received first aid at the scene. The resuscitation attempts of the registered emergency physician were to no avail. The snowboarder died at the scene of the accident.
The winter sportsman’s companion is in shock and had to be cared for by a crisis intervention team. Further investigations are underway.
