A woman in Chicago dyed a dog’s fur to commemorate the hit movie The Grinch and posted the video online.
More than ten million clicks for an internet video on the TikTok platform showing how a woman in the United States of America dyes the fur of her four-legged friend “Rizzo” green. The video went viral and sparked outrage across Europe. “That’s where the fun ends,” says Maggie Entenfellner, “Krone” animal welfare expert, of the moving images. And further: “In Austria it has been forbidden by law to dye the fur of animals since 2017.”
Risk of skin diseases
Though 37-year-old Ashley Spielmann, wife of American professional golfer Matthew Spielmann, insisted the paint was non-toxic. Entenfellner: “Dogs lick their fur during grooming, and often it can still be chemicals that can cause skin diseases in the animal.”
“We’ve Got Grinch In The House Now”
Many TikTok commentators insulted Spielmann in a so-called shitstorm as an “animal abuser” – she was not deterred by this and said in an interview with the American magazine “Newsweek” that she was not bothered by the negative comments: “My younger children love on the movie ‘The Grinch’, and now we have a little Grinch of our own!”
