On June 1 is a daycare day for children. Specially trained people with a lot of heart, small people who suffer from serious diseases all year round. So “The Gabi” is like an angel on earth for the savory Chiara. About a family and a girl who fights and loves.
Chiara is seven, her parents and the two sisters (five and ten) they lovingly call Kiki. But whether Kiki belongs – nobody knows exactly. What she sees, how she perceives her environment – nobody can say that with certainty. But what is certainly for the mother: “My daughter wants to live. She is a hunter. And we fight with her as long as she wants it. And as long as our child has quality of life.” But this fight is a violent one. Someone who demands everything from this styrician family.
It was a normal pregnancy for mother – up to a week before the origin. “It was suddenly said that our daughter would have a water head, perhaps not even survived. Chiara survived. The many, many weeks in intensive and other stations. Three operations in the head – because a tumor was formed, the youngest was not long ago.
“Out of love for the child we do everything”
How many weeks did the mother have already spent her problem child in the hospital – at some point you stop counting. “Out of love for the child, we do everything that works in one way or another.” The little one must be switched 24 hours a day.
And, very important, the two sisters should not be neglected either. “They just had to work very early and also take responsibility. Above all, the greater incredibly sensitive to her brother or sister is. She feels in advance when an epileptic attack threatens and can intervene.” The little one also has epilepsy, Chiara cannot go, stand, sit, speak.
“We have no illusions”
And it can also be “over” at any time, “we have no illusions, the doctors are also pretty clear in their language”. What this means: “That every minute counts. Every moment is expensive, many others become banal.”
The family receives a lot of support – and is very grateful for it. Especially for the Gabi, “she is a gift from heaven, a real angel”. Gabi is the specially trained supervisor of the Hospice Association, which comes to the family to maintain. Gabi is a heart character who now belongs to the family. “She is a caregiver for our two healthy daughters,” says the mother, “especially when there is a stay in the hospital again.”
Gabi also works a lot with the two brothers and sisters. “With her you will discuss your fears or feelings very differently than with me.” Gabi also made a “worries” with the sturdy blonde mäderln; Because even if you laugh a lot in this family, it is noticeable how big the worries are. The fears. “We strive a lot for normality,” says Mam. “But nothing is normal for us.”
