Long-distance labor – baby born on the plane: Austrian helped mother

During a KLM flight from Ecuador to Amsterdam, a young woman unexpectedly gave birth to a baby. A few hours before landing, the woman had a stomach ache and went to the toilet. There she gave birth to the child after a short delivery, according to the Spaarnse Gasthuiskliniek in Haarlem, the Netherlands, where the mother and son were taken after landing.

The young woman says she didn’t even know she was pregnant and was very surprised by the delivery. The airline confirmed the unusual incident above the clouds to the ANP news agency.

Austrian nurse helped young mother after birth
On the plane were two doctors and a nurse from Austria who could offer help after the delivery. According to the clinic, the mother named her son after one of the helpers: Maximilian.

Both are doing well, the hospital reported, which also provided the necessary papers so that the mother can continue to Madrid with her child as originally planned.
