After a bitterly cold Monday, things got a lot better: again the lowest temperatures were measured in Tyrol – in an East Tyrolean town the thermometer dropped to 21 degrees below zero. It should be warmer on Tuesday in the mountains in the west than in the valleys.
As of 07:00 on Tuesday morning, St. Jakob im Defereggental was the leader for the coldest inhabited places in Austria. According to the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics, a bitterly cold minus 21 degrees was measured there. On Monday, the East Tyrolean community was still in second place (-20.2 degrees) – just behind Schmirn in the Innsbruck-Land district.
Second place went to St. Michael in the Salzburger Lungau on Tuesday morning. It was freezing there on Tuesday morning at minus 20 degrees.
Double figures almost everywhere in Tyrol
In short, Tuesday morning in the Tyrolean valleys was colder than Monday. Almost all ZAMG weather stations showed minus temperatures in the two-digit range. With the exception of Ehrwald in the Ausserfern (-8.7 degrees). It was also freezing cold in the provincial capital of Innsbruck, where minus 14.2 degrees was measured at the airport.
How’s the weather?
On Tuesday it will remain dry in Tyrol with a mix of sun and high clouds, which will be quite compact in the afternoon in the Oberland and Ausserfern. “It remains the friendliest with the longest sunshine in the lowlands and in East Tyrol. While the frost on the mountains is weakening with an increasing westerly wind, it remains cold in the lowlands – with another day of permafrost,” says ZAMG. The maximum values are between minus 6 and minus 2 degrees.
Snow, rain, hair dryer on Wednesday
A cold front will move across Tyrol on Wednesday, bringing rain and occasional light snowfall to the northern edge of the Alps. With an increasing westerly wind, the snow line temporarily rises to 1,000 to 1,500 meters. In the middle of the Inn Valley and in the inner Alps, according to the ZAMG, it will remain mainly dry and partly sunny with a moderate to strong southerly wind.
It will be a bit milder on Thursday, before a cold front causes snowfall in North and East Tyrol on Friday.
