Belarus has begun an unannounced inspection of the combat readiness of its troops. This was announced by the Ministry of Defense of the country bordering Ukraine and connected to Russia. However, Lukashenko previously ruled out participation in the war in Ukraine.
“Comprehensive activities” are planned, such as the “organization of protection and defense”. Military personnel and equipment would be moved. The use of individual public roads will be restricted.
Lukashenko ‘does not want to get involved’
It was not until late November that Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko ruled out the direct deployment of his army in Ukraine. He did not want to “meddle” in the conflict – since the beginning of the Russian offensive war, Lukashenko was always expected to be able to join his ally in the Kremlin.
Deployment area of Russian troops
Lukashenko has made his country, which is heavily dependent on Moscow, available as a deployment area for Russian troops. From there, Russian air strikes on Ukraine are flown. After material losses by the Russian army, Belarus supplies tanks and other weapons.
Ukraine therefore regards the neighboring country as a combatant and is also keeping troops in reserve in case it has to repel a direct attack from Belarus.
