Date:

The last boy died days after four children had an accident on an icy lake in central England. The six-year-old lost the fight for his life in hospital, West Midlands police said on Wednesday evening.

The boys, aged between six and 11, broke through the ice sheet of a lake in the central English town of Solihull (near Birmingham) while playing on Sunday. Initially, the police could not rule out that more people had fallen into the water and searched the bottom of the lake for days. The search has now been completed, the police said in a statement. The last boy to collapse died in hospital on Wednesday evening.

The incident sparked outrage across the country. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said his thoughts are with his family. There has been freezing temperatures and snowfall across much of the UK since Sunday. There were traffic jams on highways and disruptions and delays in public transport. Several schools remained closed because the teachers could not travel.
