Statistics set – despite recommendation only 40% fully vaccinated

Date:

Figures from the Ministry of Health show that the advice of the National Vaccination Commission (NIG) no longer has the desired effect. According to this, the number of people fully vaccinated against Corona has fallen by two million since the end of June and only four in ten people in Austria are currently vaccinated against the virus. The publication of this statistic has now been discontinued.

Since the end of June, the Ministry of Health has been publishing online how many people follow the experts’ recommendations for corona vaccination. At that time there were 5.6 million – 62 percent of Austria’s population. Since then, however, the number has dropped steadily: at the end of November, only 4.8 million had been vaccinated according to the NIG recommendation, now it’s less than 3.7 million (40 percent).

NIG recommends three vaccinations and a booster
For optimal protection during the cold season, the vaccination committee recommends completing the basic vaccination (three vaccinations) and a fourth booster vaccination. This is possible for anyone over the age of twelve; it is particularly recommended for the over-60s and those at risk.

Particularly sharp decline in the elderly
However, so far only about 1.5 million people have actually performed the booster vaccination. This means that many Austrians do not adhere to the recommended vaccination schedule. The drop is particularly strong in the older age groups: since June, the vaccination coverage of people over 85 has fallen from 84 to 54 percent (minus 30 percent), in the age groups between 45 and 84 the drop is at least a quarter.

The statistics are now set
As of Thursday, the Ministry of Health will no longer publish how many people adhere to the NIG’s recommendations. In the future it will only be known how many people have completed the first series of vaccinations (first and second vaccination), how many also received the third vaccination (“primary vaccination”) and a “booster” (fourth dose or more). ).
