Freezing rain turned the streets of Styria into a real ice rink at night. The fire department was constantly on call, some buses had to stop running.
Extreme caution was required in morning traffic on Styrian roads on Friday! During the night, black ice fell across the board, making the streets slippery in the morning hours.
Asfinag warns of the increased risk of skidding on the motorways, especially on the A2 between Graz and Klagenfurt, due to the frozen road – especially in the packing area. But now there is no more danger.
School buses cancelled
Some school buses even had to stop driving due to the current situation. For example, in the east of Graz or around Gleinstätten, as the ORF reported. Trucks need snow chains to drive over the Pogusch.
The firefighters had been working all night. The FF Pöllau had to work extremely hard and had to swerve six times to rescue vehicles because of the black ice. The fire brigades in Nestelbach, Hart bei Graz, Gössendorf, Kalsdorf and Feldkirchen, among others, were involved in various operations involving slipped cars.
In Graz city traffic, the black ice is not the only spoilsport on Friday: Bergmanngasse is closed from 11:30 am to 10:00 pm due to a demonstration of the “Auto:frei:tag” initiative. Bus 41 must therefore be diverted.
