About three years after the art robbery in the Green Vault in Dresden, Germany, detectives have recovered most of the loot. In Berlin, 31 items were seized on Saturday evening.
According to the public prosecutor’s office, there are also particularly valuable items in between. The protected documents were taken to Dresden accompanied by special police units. There they are first examined forensically. Experts from the Dresden State Art Collections must then check them for authenticity and completeness.
Trial of six suspects
According to the researchers, the discovery of the valuable items preceded exploratory talks with the lawyers of the alleged burglars. Since the beginning of this year, a trial has been underway in Dresden against six suspects for serious gang theft, arson and particularly serious arson.
On November 25, 2019, the Dresden Residenzschloss was broken into. The perpetrators punched holes in a display case with a hoe and ripped out jewels.
