A brown bear fell into a photo trap in Tyrol’s Lechtal Valley. The animal had been using a game feeding station when the photo was taken. A roebuck may also have served the bear for a meal.
In addition to the clear photo evidence, the brown bear also left behind the gnawed skeleton of the buck. DNA traces now need to be evaluated to be sure.
“He’ll Just Get Through This”
Managing director Walter Walch told krone.at that the bear has not yet caused any further damage – especially since farm animals such as sheep are still in the stables: “It is still too early to put the animals out to pasture. The bear will get through here , I think.”
In general, the chance of encountering a brown bear in the Tyrolean mountains is very small. From time to time mainly male animals migrate from Trentino up through Tyrol to Bavaria. It was not until Monday evening that the Bavarian State Environment Agency reported that bear tracks had been found in the snow in the Mangfall Mountains on Bavarian soil in the districts of Miesbach and Rosenheim.
Problem bear “Gaia” caught
Nevertheless, bear sightings may be a cause for concern after the deadly incident in Italy. A bear fatally injured jogger Andrea Papi (26). The animal had already caused incidents several times, now “Gaia” was captured and taken to an enclosure.
