Violence at school – Director of HTL -Klat: “No room for bullying”

Date:

The case around 15-year-old Peter K. (name changed), who was tortured, beaten and filmed on the HTL Vöcklabruck for months, beats high waves. Although the five alleged perpetrators have now been thrown by the school and the police are determined, the protest remains great and many ask: how can it go unnoticed for that long?

According to an anonymous source that turned to the “Kroon”, “he was tortured for half a year – choked, beaten, beaten, beaten with straps.”
A video presented by the editorial team shows how Peter is pushed out of a window in the intervening floor in the school building. It was not the only incident, according to the source.

Now director Gernot Weissensteiner takes on a position and finds clear words:
“The investigation of the incidents is very priority. We fully support the research: bullying has no place at our school. Our claim is a school climate that is characterized by respect, safety and mutual appreciation.”

Probably different victims, announced workshops
According to director Weissensteiner, victims and perpetrators are between 15 and 16 old. A school exclusion process was started against four students, another student has already been suspended. The director emphasizes that four of the five suspects have the Austrian citizenship. And: there are probably more suspected victims – because three students are sick leave because of bullying. The educational directorate also confirmed three other possible victims in writing.

To prevent future attacks, the school announces measures: From autumn there must be workshops for violence prevention, existing programs such as the Buddy system for the first classes are being expanded. In addition, reporting pest incidents must be simplified and possible to simplify anonymously.

Directorate Education responded to “Hureless chatter”
In a written statement from the Austria Directorate in the field of Austria to the “Krone”: “About two weeks ago, the school was aware of possible attack within a class, but only outside of class because of a harmless chatter and a confidential conversation by the student teachers. And the police informed the police.

Peter himself has been with sick leave for several weeks. According to our source, violence was again threatened when he returned to school. It is uncertain whether he will ever return to HTL Vöcklabruck.

This case shows again: bullying often starts on a small scale, but it often ends in real violence. What is rejected as a “harmless chatter” can destroy life. That is why not only workshops, but also education.
