After the horrific attack on a 16-year-old girl near Linz Central Station, details are increasingly coming to light: Foreign police officers who happened to hear voices and screams are said to have caught the four alleged rapists kneeling over the victim. The three suspects arrested are two 15-year-old Afghans and a 14-year-old Iranian. A fourth party is still being sought.
The attack took place in a stairwell behind the postal distribution center, which is currently used as an emergency shelter for Ukrainian displaced persons. But that shouldn’t have anything to do with the crime.
Foreign police officers touring the area caught the suspects raping the young German woman. “We must assume that the crime has been completed,” the state police said. Because they caught the alleged perpetrators attacking the girl together.
The officials arrested three young people – an Iranian (14) and two Afghans (15 each), all entitled to asylum – and a fourth fled. He was searched for, including with the help of a helicopter from the air. The identity of the fugitive is not yet known.
The police were also unable to provide any information about the background of the crime, but it is possible that the perpetrator and victim did not know each other beforehand.
Haimbucher: ‘Keep offenders elsewhere’
Vice Governor Manfred Haimbuchner (FPÖ) has already demanded that the EU keep delinquent migrants “under international surveillance in Brussels or elsewhere”. His party colleague, Linz Security City councilor Michael Raml, again demanded that the Interior Ministry increase the number of executives. You need more police officers in prevention and presence. City Police Commander Karl Pogutter does not see the situation as tragic. His pragmatic approach: “I can only say that I have to make do with what I have.”
