An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale hit Northern California on Tuesday. The quake’s epicenter was near the town of Ferndale, about 250 miles north of San Francisco, according to the USGS.
So the quake took place in the early morning (around 2:34 a.m.) local time, when many people were still asleep. “That was intense. The electricity has gone out in Ferndal. Our house has been destroyed,” Caroline Titus wrote on Twitter, posting a video from her home.
Tens of thousands of households without power
According to the website PowerOutage.us, tens of thousands of homes were left without power after the earthquake. According to the California Highway Patrol, some roads and a bridge were damaged. The population was warned of aftershocks.
US media reported two injured, citing police. There was initially no official confirmation.
