Embedded in a westerly current, a warm front will cross Austria on Friday. In addition, there is an interplay of dense clouds and some sunshine. Especially in the parts of the country north of the main Alpine ridge and in the north and east, it can occasionally rain in the morning. Precipitation from the west will increase considerably towards evening. However, it will remain largely dry in the south and southeast of the country. The snow line is around 2000 meters above sea level. In addition, a moderate to strong westerly wind will blow from Upper Austria during the day. Early temperatures are minus two to plus seven degrees, daily maximum temperatures four to 13 degrees depending on wind influence.

December 24: The sun emerges in the east and southeast from noon
The Eastern Alps remain in a mild westerly flow on Christmas Eve. Embedded in this, denser clouds will occur repeatedly during the day on Saturday. Rain can sometimes be expected with them, especially above the Alpine peaks at a snowfall level between 1500 and 1800 meters above sea level. In the meantime, however, there are also sunny periods. But while the clouds dominate in the west, the sun increasingly appears further in the east and southeast in the afternoon. The predominant wind direction is west. From here the wind blows moderately, in the eastern plains and over the eastern Alpine peaks also strong. The temperatures in the morning vary from minus one to plus ten degrees. The maximum daytime temperatures are four to fifteen degrees, it is warmest in the eastern plains with the westerly wind, the lower values ​​are measured in basins and valleys in the south.

25/12: Cloudy and some rain
On Christmas Day, the disturbance influence on the north side of the Alps and in the east decreases, only weakly affecting the weather with thicker clouds and some more raindrops. Otherwise it will be slightly cloudy outside the fog zones from the start, so it will also be freezing in the morning in the inner Alps. On Sunday afternoon, the sun can also be seen briefly in the northeast, before the fog tends to lift over the flat land again. The wind is weak to moderate from different directions. Early temperatures minus four to plus four degrees, the maximum daytime temperatures reach five to twelve degrees.

Expect fog on St. Stephen’s Day
On St. Stephen’s Day, persistent high fog hangs over lowlands and basins. Outside the foggy areas it is sunny during the day and persistently very mild at average altitude. In the evenings, another cold front with rising rain will reach western and northern Austria. The snow line drops to 1600 meters. The generally weak wind is also picking up and turning west again. Early temperatures are minus five to plus four degrees, daily maximum temperatures two to ten degrees.

The remnants of a persistent cold front will affect the weather on Tuesday morning and in the morning, especially in the northern part of the Alps, with dense clouds and a few raindrops. Some snow falls above 1100 meters. During the day, most clouds disappear with increasing air pressure, only in the south are areas of high fog more constant. Initially, a strong westerly wind will blow, especially in the north and east, which will die down everywhere by evening. Early temperatures are minus four to plus five degrees, the maximum daytime temperatures reach plus three to ten degrees.
