Only 40 kilometers from Russia
With about 1.5 million inhabitants, the regional capital Kharkov is the second largest city in Ukraine and is only about 40 kilometers from the Russian border. The city has been fiercely contested since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. So far, the Russian forces have failed to capture them. Regional Governor Oleh Synyehubov said on Thursday that more than 500 civilians have already been killed in the region.
According to the responsible regional governor, two people have been killed and four others injured in Russian attacks in the eastern Ukrainian city of Solote.
