A bishop’s mass, which is even broadcast by video, and festive dishes – traditionally smoked sausages with horseradish in Carinthia – also provide a Christmas atmosphere.
“All in all, we have prisoners from about 50 countries. They are all united by the basic idea of Christmas, that it should be a festival of peace that brings people together. And almost everyone adapts to it and carries it with them, at least for this quiet time,” says Gramm.
