Three brothers and sisters in Burgenland endure the saddest Christmas of their lives. They had lost their father and now their mother.
Fate often strikes mercilessly. A family from Rust had to go through this bitter experience. Just two years ago, Alexander’s father (17) and his two older sisters, a cook and waiter from Vienna, lost their battle against cancer. Three days before Christmas Eve, the mother (52) – who was born in Tyrol as a receptionist in the Seelokal Katamaran – died of the treacherous disease. A heavy blow for the children!
Financial concerns
The grieving orphans are burdened not only with psychological suffering, but also with enormous financial worries. Because with the death of the mother, the family account was blocked. The descendants, who are now left alone, have no access to the money. The siblings don’t know how to pay the funeral costs, nor how to pay the next electricity and gas bill.
Rust’s mayor, Gerold Stagl, promptly reached into his pocket. Alexander received 500 euros so that he could go shopping. At the initiative of President Verena Dunst, Volkshilfe is making 3,000 euros available as direct support and a donation account: “Until everything gets going, we will pay the bills.” According to Stagl, the municipality also helps the orphans with the funeral.
