Two men from a group of refugees were hit by a car in the dark on Christmas Eve in Halbturn (Burgenland). Hospital!
In the night from Saturday to Saturday, a serious accident took place on the outskirts of Halbturn in the direction of Andau. On the way was a small group of refugees who had come from Hungary and had apparently only recently crossed the border. Once the migrants arrived in Austria, two of the dark-clad pedestrians were hit by an army vehicle.
The two Afghans suffered serious injuries. One patient had to be admitted to the Vienna-Meidling Accident Hospital and the rescuers took the second injured person to the Vienna-Donaustadt Clinic.
It was not the first accident during the illegal migration. As reported, three smugglers chased Hungarian police across the border between Andau and Janossomorja in their cars in early September.
Several accidents already
At the Mönchhof roundabout, a car collided with a truck, the Afghan driver (31) escaped with minor injuries. He had no migrants in the car. An accomplice had also rammed into the truck with his towing vehicle, but was able to continue his escape. This perpetrator was stopped in Gols with six migrants. The third smuggler managed to escape. In total there were eleven asylum seekers on the forbidden tour, nine came from Afghanistan, one man and one woman from India.
Just three weeks earlier, a smuggler had gone on the run and caused an accident near Kittsee. At that time, three migrants died and 17 were injured.
