German duo rescued – snowshoe hikers completely exhausted: emergency call!

Date:

Two young Germans found themselves in an alpine emergency in Tyrol’s Ötztal Alps on Tuesday: The snowshoeing duo must have overestimated themselves and underestimated the tour. When the men couldn’t get any further due to complete exhaustion, they made an emergency call.

The Germans, aged 19 and 21, actually wanted to make a two-day trip in the Ötztal Alps towards the Erlanger Hütte (2,541 meters). But nothing came of that.

The last stop was at 1800 meters
The duo already had to give up at the Vorderen Leierstalalm at about 1800 meters above sea level. The men still had more than three hours of “snowshoe march” ahead of them to reach their actual destination. But the Germans did not advance or retreat, completely breathless and exhausted. So they had no other way out than to make an alpine distress call at 5:15 p.m.

Mountain rescuers brought Germans into the valley
Seven emergency services from the Umhausen mountain rescue team then set out. The rescuers arrived at the two unharmed around 6.30pm – they were then taken to a trail and from there by mountain rescue vehicle down to the valley floor.

Tourers “caught” at 2700 meters
The day before mountain rescuers had been called to Ischgl. In the sometimes heavy snowfall and stormy winds, the guide of a seven-person ski tour group was lost. At about 2700 meters above sea level, the winter sports enthusiasts have finally set up an emergency bivouac. They remained there until the alarmed emergency services arrived at night. Finally, the group was taken to a cabin.
