Red light ignored – again: train collides with car despite emergency braking

Date:

After no injuries were reported in Bleiburg on Tuesday in a collision between a car and a passenger train, an 83-year-old from Villach also tried his luck. He ignored the red light at a free level crossing on St. Magdalener Straße in Villach.

Neighbors continue to report dangerous situations at the unsecured level crossing in Seebach at FF St. Magdalenen. On Wednesday around 1.22 pm there was an accident because, according to the police, an 83-year-old motorist ignored the red light.

Deactivation required
“The train arrived at walking pace, but was unable to stop despite an emergency brake,” the police said. The freight train collided perpendicular to the car, tossing the vehicle sideways and severely damaging it.

But again, miraculously, everyone was unharmed. “I call on traffic police officer Gerald Dobernig to handle the case and to look with ÖBB for ways to defuse it,” said Katrin Nießner, chairman of the Freedom Party in Villach.
