8 degrees room temperature – finally! Help for tenants in house construction scandal

Date:

The horror house on Dornbacher Strasse in Vienna was overlooked for far too long. Now there is a small glimmer of hope.

The tenants of the Wilhelminian style building at Dornbacher Straße 4 have been experiencing the daily horror in their own four walls for two years – we reported. Collapsing ceilings, water damage, missing windows, ripped floors and poorly supported walls that threaten to collapse at any moment.

Eva Landl, who has lived here for 43 years, is at her wit’s end. Despite the radiators being on, the pensioner’s apartment reaches a maximum of 8 degrees. It is also striking that the owner of the building has not signed any new leases for a long time in the house, which actually has twelve apartments.

However, the tactic of evicting the last two tenants doesn’t work. Because the Landls have now received active support. District manager Peter Jagsch (SPÖ) and the Viennese tenant assistance became active.

After a judicial inspection, it was determined that the landlord must close all openings in the house by January 15 – as protection against the cold and also to prevent the pipes from freezing. In addition, the Landl family’s apartment must be thermally renovated and the water damage in the bedroom must be repaired immediately.
