Hundreds of people lined up on Friday to say goodbye to Jürgen T. in the parish church in Schattendorf. Among the many mourners were Governor Doskozil and Landesrat Dorner.
His death shocked all of Austria. Jürgen T. from Schattendorf had visited a discotheque with friends the weekend before Christmas Eve – and never returned home. His wife and two daughters aged eight and ten have been without a husband and father ever since.
Dejected for the bar
The 42-year-old graduate engineer of the state real estate company was brutally beaten in front of the local entrance. There was no salvation for the victim of this inexplicable act of violence.
Big dismay
For the family and many friends and colleagues of the deceased, a world collapsed. They are stunned and appalled at what has happened. Hundreds of mourners lined the road to the parish church in Schattendorf early Friday afternoon to say goodbye to Jürgen T. for the last time.
Doskozil and Dorner said goodbye
The first mourners lined up at the church long before the funeral service. Not only was Schattendorf’s mayor Thomas Hoffmann caught in the middle of it all, but also governor Hans Peter Doskozil and Transport Minister Heinrich Dorner waited patiently to pay their last respects to Jürgen T.
In the spirit of the words of the bereaved who attended: “Now rest in peace and go in peace, always remember that we love you.” The urn will later be buried in the immediate family circle.
investigations are underway
Police work continues. Just hours after the shocking act, the handcuffs clicked for the alleged perpetrator.
The 18-year-old Syrian from the district of Neunkirchen (Lower Austria) is not the only suspect in custody. A 16-year-old from Burgenland is also being investigated.
