208,000 sold – Twice as many have climate tickets as expected

Date:

Since its introduction on October 26, 2021, more than 208,000 people in Austria have already received the climate ticket, the Ministry of Climate Protection announced on Friday. This exceeded expectations by two times. Sales statistics from the transport companies assume approximately 110,000 customers. With the Austria-wide climate card, people can use all public transport throughout Austria for 1095 euros per year.

Most uniform tickets were sold in Vienna with 65,200, followed by Lower Austria with 53,700, Upper Austria with 34,500, Styria with 13,300, Tyrol with 11,600, Salzburg with 11,500, Carinthia with 6,200, Burgenland with 5,300 and Vorarlberg with 5,000. 1700 tickets were sold abroad. If you have bought the Austria-wide climate ticket since July 1, you also get a 13th month free. The promotion is valid for new purchases until the end of the year. If you already have one, you also get a month free if you extend it until June 30, 2023.

Climate minister: ‘Will pay off twice and three times’
“The climate ticket is a great success. A little over a year into the climate map shows that people in Austria want to travel in a climate-friendly way and are willing to switch to public transport for this,’ says Minister of Climate Protection Leonore Gewessler (Greens). “Public transport saves energy, is good for the wallet and protects our climate. Every euro we invest in public transport pays for itself twice and triple.”

With the climate ticket, passengers can use any bus, tram, metro or train throughout Austria for three euros per day – for a total of 1095 euros per year.
