If there was mail from a bank in Penzinger’s mailboxes, a previously unknown person in Vienna saw this as an opportunity.
Regularly – at least from November 9, 2022 to January 4 this year, according to the Vienna police – the phantom is said to have fished in mailboxes in western Vienna and pocketed ATMs that should have been delivered to customers.
Surveillance cameras filmed the suspect
In at least five cases, he took the cards and associated PINs to the bank and appropriated large sums of money that did not belong to him. What the smoking thief hadn’t counted on: cameras took him without a mask and therefore without camouflage at the ATM. Now the police are looking for the bearded perpetrator in the hooded jacket with the photos.
Tips about his identity can now be given anonymously to the National Investigation Department on 01-31310-25600.
