At 10 p.m. on Saturday, heightened operational readiness was announced due to the steadily increasing number of incoming emergency calls. A Christmas tree, a balcony, a bus and a dumpster went up in flames. At the provincial control center in Vienna on 31.12. and 4341 emergency calls on New Year’s Day. Police officers were deployed around 1902. The main reasons for this were noise pollution, damage to property and illegal fireworks.
In the Schillgasse in Vienna-Floridsdorf, apartment owners first tried to fight a Christmas tree fire themselves. They eventually fled the building due to the heavy smoke development. The fire brigade extinguished the fire in the room and ventilated the stairwell and the apartment.

A friend dialed the emergency number and, following instructions from the Vienna Rescue Coordination Center, began the chest compressions. The professional rescue teams took over and after a few minutes the heart started beating again. The man has been taken to hospital.
