He was an experienced paraglider pilot and wanted to welcome the new year with a scenic flight. But the 51-year-old never returned from his trip to Tyrol’s Brixental Valley.
The first day of the year in Tyrol is overshadowed by numerous accidents and several fatalities. This also includes a 51-year-old who made a sightseeing flight with his paraglider from the Hohe Salve in Hopfgarten in Brixental Valley around noon.
“In the lower third of the flight path, the experienced pilot performed a spiral flight,” the police describe the dramatic events. During the maneuver, the 51-year-old collided with full force against a snow-free mountain slope and suffered such serious injuries that he died at the scene of the accident.
