In May and June, several women were sexually harassed on the street. The alleged perpetrator (19) has already been caught. As it became known on Sunday, there would be at least twelve cases. The police do not rule out that there are more victims.
The incidents took place in the Margareten and Wieden districts of Vienna. The man is said to have sexually abused women between the ages of 17 and 33 during the day and at night. He was finally caught on July 30, shortly after lifting a 33-year-old woman’s dress from behind and slapping her buttocks.
Twelve known cases
The detectives of the Viennese criminal police had been on the trail of the 19-year-old for some time after this type of incident was repeatedly reported. In most cases, the 19-year-old stalks his victims from behind, pulls up their skirts or dresses, and slaps their buttocks or grabs their genitals. In other cases, he would even have bared his penis.

When the arrest finally came, a civilian EGS officer was slightly injured by the perpetrator. During the police interrogation, the 19-year-old suspect confessed to having sexually assaulted several women. The Vienna Criminal Investigation Department, together with the public prosecutor’s office of St. Pölten, is investigating suspicions of various crimes against sexual integrity, resistance to state authority and serious bodily harm against the suspect.
Police are looking for more victims
The police now assume that there may be other victims in addition to the known cases.
