A serious accident in the Styrian municipality of Grafendorf (Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district) ended on Monday with one death and one seriously injured. There was a total blockade on Wechsel Straße (B54).
The fact that a 73-year-old woman from Eastern Styria had to stop her car on the B54 in the Grafendorf district of Lechen at around 12:40 p.m. was probably bad luck. With the hazard lights on, she sat in her car and called her husband to discuss what to do next.
At that moment, an 81-year-old from the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district hit the stationary car with full force. The woman suffered fatal injuries as a result of the impact and her opponent was seriously injured. The man had to be flown to the LKH Oberwart.
No alcohol test possible
The 81-year-old driver involved in the accident was unable to have an alcohol test carried out due to his poor health. The Graz public prosecutor’s office has ordered a blood test.
An autopsy is now being performed on the deceased woman, also on behalf of the public prosecutor’s office, and her car is being examined by an expert. Your loved ones are now cared for by the crisis intervention team. The Grafendorf and Lafnitz fire brigade was involved in the accident with 54 people for about three hours.
