18-year-old died – fatal fireworks accident: parquet in the train

Date:

In the case of the fatal fireworks accident in Lower Austria, the public prosecutor’s office is now on board – and has launched an investigation on suspicion of grossly negligent homicide and negligent bodily harm. The explosion of a bullet bomb on New Year’s Eve resulted in the death of an 18-year-old and three other boys were injured, some of them critically.

The investigations are directed against unknown perpetrators, authority spokesman Erich Habitzl told the APA on Tuesday. An autopsy has now been ordered. The result of the police investigation and the executive branch’s report are still pending, it said. It will take some time before results are available, the spokesperson emphasizes. There were also several interrogations.

Category F4: “For use by skilled persons only”
In addition, it is still unclear where the bullet bomb came from. It is now clear that these are class F4 fireworks.
This category generally poses “a great danger”, they are “only intended for use by people with specialist knowledge”, police spokesman Stefan Loidl recently emphasized.

The tragic accident happened in St. Johann am Steinfelde, a cadastral municipality of Ternitz, on New Year’s Eve. For the 18-year-old, all help came too late after the explosion. A boy of the same age was seriously injured on Tuesday and was still in critical condition on Tuesday. A 17-year-old and a 19-year-old were injured.

16-year-old in Lichtenau still in mortal danger
A 16-year-old boy, who was also seriously injured by a fireworks accident, was still in mortal danger on Tuesday. The incident took place in Lichtenau in the Waldviertel. The 16-year-old only lit the fireworks – they are also a category F4 fireworks. The teenager had bought the explosive illegally in the Czech Republic.
