Two dead, one seriously injured and one slightly injured: that is the result of a serious traffic accident on Saturday evening in the Salzburger Pinzgau. On the B311 in Taxenbach near the Trattenbach tunnel, a car collided head-on with an ambulance. Detectives and forensic pathologists are investigating. The “Krone” has details of the accident.
Despite a major alarm for the emergency services, the life of the motorist (42) who collided with the Red Cross ambulance could not be saved. All help came too late for the patient (76), whom the paramedics had just transferred to a hospital without blue lights. Four emergency doctors and countless paramedics fought in vain for the lives of the men.
Critically injured paramedic flown to hospital
The 60-year-old paramedic behind the wheel of the ambulance was airlifted to Salzburg Accident Hospital in an alert but serious condition. For this, the fire brigade had to cut him out of the completely deformed vehicle with heavy equipment. Diagnosis: Polytrauma. It is likely fractures in the ribs, pelvis, thighs and lower legs. The community service, who cared for the patient in the patient room of the car, came to the hospital in Zell am See with minor injuries to the ankle joint and head.
Expert to clarify the cause
“I was instructed by the public prosecutor’s office to clarify the course of the accident and the cause,” says accident expert Gerhard Kronreif. In the evening he photographed the scene of the accident with a drone, secured evidence and documented the situation on the spot. The prosecutor’s office also ordered the autopsy of the two deceased. Toxicology blood tests are also performed as part of the autopsy.
Dead spilled onto the oncoming runway, paramedics on a routine trip
However, based on the location of the tracks, it seems certain that the 42-year-old fatality with his Ford Galaxy ended up in the opposite lane and collided with the oncoming ambulance. According to information from “Krone”, the patient was in the ambulance and was not transported on the stretcher.
He should have been properly secured in a transport chair and actually should have been transferred from the Tauern clinic in Zell am See to the clinic in Schwarzach. The vehicles involved in the accident have been brought to safety. The B311 was closed for several hours.
