Countermeasures – China counters corona entry barriers

The Chinese leadership is now responding to tightened entry requirements for Chinese citizens in many countries. South Korea and Japan were the first countries to be targeted.

The Chinese embassy in South Korea has stopped issuing short-term visas to South Korean visitors. The Japanese news agency Kyodo also reported this on Tuesday, citing travel agencies, China would no longer issue new tourist visas for Japanese citizens.

Negative corona tests before departure
Should South Korea lift its “discriminatory entry restrictions”, Beijing said the embassy’s measures would also be adjusted again. In return, South Korea’s foreign ministry said the restrictions on travelers from China were objective and based on scientific knowledge. The South Korean authorities require travelers from China, Macau and Hong Kong to undergo a negative corona test before departure. A similar provision also applies in Japan, although travelers from Hong Kong and Macau are exempt there.

Numerous other countries have taken similar measures, including Austria. Travelers from the People’s Republic China must provide a negative PCR test not older than 48 hours before departure to Austria. The airlines are responsible for checking the evidence and have already been informed, the health ministry said.

Peak of infection wave over

New infections have been reported in the capital Beijing and in several provinces, reports the Health Times, a publication of Renmin Ribao – the newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party. According to the health authorities of the central Chinese province of Henan, 90 percent of the 100 million inhabitants there are already infected.
