A bloody act by a mother of two in Vienna has terrifying parallels to the double killer. The “innocent” prisoner died in the psychiatric ward.
What happened last February to the wife of a Viennese manager and mother of two of a then nine-year-old and a daughter (10) is, like the double murderer, the stuff of a horror movie. At around 4:40 a.m., the 42-year-old, who had been home alone (the husband was on a business trip), was awakened by a loud rattling from the patio door of her apartment building on the outskirts of town. Her son slept next to her, and his sister in the nursery next to her.
When the woman tried to hide with the boy, the intruder suddenly appeared in front of them on the landing. “He already had a knife in his hand, like in a bad horror movie. I saw the sallow expression on his face, the expressionless eyes staring back at me, and I knew right away that man was out to kill!” victim later to the investigators.
As with the Poles, this burglar – a former model student (high school graduate with good results) from a good family – is not looking for prey. Though the mother-of-two offered to him, “If you’re looking for money, I’ll give you money,” the phantom stabbed her “like a robot.”
Fight to the death with son in hand
When she fled back into the bedroom, a life-and-death struggle began: with her son at hand, who kept shouting: “Leave mom alone!”, she was hit several times by the knife. A total of eight times! The perpetrator only releases her and flees when the seriously injured victim shouts with presence of mind: “The police are coming, you have to flee.” The mother of two barely survived the shock attack after emergency surgery in the AKH.
A court expert diagnosed paranoid schizophrenia or acute psychosis – and therefore insanity – in the suspect, who was arrested in the night of blood. He is sent to an institution for mentally deviant offenders without conviction. With drug treatment in the psychiatric ward of the Josefstadt prison in the regional court, the stinger’s conscience awakens.
“What have I done to wife and children?”
“What have I done to wife and children?” the 31-year-old keeps asking. Apparently crushed by his guilt, the stinger committed suicide in jail around New Year’s Day.
