Heavy rainfall has hit the Philippines, killing at least 17 people in recent days. More than 70,000 people have been forced to evacuate due to flooding in more than a dozen provinces. The heavy rains affected more than 452,000 citizens, damaged 50 homes and destroyed 158 roads, according to the National Council for Disaster Reduction and Management. Seven people were injured by the storm and more than 40 bridges were knocked out.
The weather conditions have also led to power cuts in dozens of cities, as well as the shutdown of operations in more than 20 ports across the country. In addition, they have hit schools, whose classes have been suspended in 500 municipalities. More than a hundred companies have been forced to temporarily close.
The storm has been hitting the country since last Christmas when torrential rains caused severe flooding and landslides that killed a total of 52 and forced thousands upon thousands of people to flee their homes.
