A Tyrolean state official has been provisionally suspended for allegedly being involved in bringing two young Ukrainians to Moscow as part of a family reunion that was not coordinated with the responsible Ukrainian authorities. The 16 and 17-year-olds were placed in a children’s and youth institution in Tyrol and flown to their mothers in Moscow.
The state of Tyrol was informed about the events by the Ukrainian consulate and the Ukrainian embassy on Thursday, according to a broadcast from the state. “The young people originally came to Tyrol as part of the aid to Ukraine and were placed in a children’s and youth institution,” says Herbert Forster, the director of the state office.
“According to the information we currently have, an employee of the European Ombudsman Institute, who is also employed by the Tyrolean provincial ombudsman service, was involved in the processes,” explains Forster. The man apparently acted at the request of his Russian ombudsman colleague. According to him, he received information from the Russian embassy that the young people’s mothers were already in Russia and wanted their families reunited.
“Alone and not coordinated with the state of Tyrol”
“According to current knowledge, the actions of the employee involved were a solo effort and were not coordinated with the state of Tyrol, nor was the state of Tyrol involved in the shipment. We distance ourselves from these actions, which were not coordinated with the competent Ukrainian authorities. The employee in question has been temporarily suspended by the state of Tyrol,” Forster continues.
Internal investigation started
The state of Tyrol is in close contact with the official offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ukrainian Embassy and the Prosecutor’s Office and has pledged full support for the investigation. An internal investigation into the events has already been ordered. Since the institution of the state ombudsman is an organ of the state parliament, the club presidents of the state parliament parties were also informed about the state of affairs on Saturday.
