On Saturday night there was a fire brigade operation in a high-rise residential complex in Vienna-Simmering due to a basement fire. Countless people had to be evacuated wearing escape filter masks. Alert level 2 was in effect.
Heavy smoke partly rose in the stairwell and the smell of fire spread in some apartments. Frightened residents called the fire brigade. The Viennese professional fire brigade fought the fire in the basement with respiratory protection and searched the stairwell and apartments for anyone present, the Viennese professional fire brigade announced this morning.
Several respiratory protection teams led numerous residents wearing escape filter masks out of the smoke-filled stairwell and handed them over to Vienna’s professional rescue service.
They were on site with the special task force and took care of the people. So no one had to be taken to hospital. The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
