A dangerous incident occurred during a weapons inspection in Klagenfurt. A police officer was injured.
Owners of gun passports and gun possession cards know the procedure all too well: the police visit them unannounced at least every five years to check that all reported handguns, revolvers and semi-automatic assault rifles are kept safe and protected from unauthorized access.
And it was precisely during such a routine check that a dangerous incident occurred in Klagenfurt on Thursday.
Shot fired from a weapon
A man from Klagenfurt showed officials in his apartment where and how he kept his weapons and ammunition safe. The man in the living room was carrying a gun when suddenly a shot rang out. “A policewoman was slightly injured,” confirms the head of the bureau for public relations and internal operations, Hofrat Mag. Rainer Dionisio, the case: “The officer involved suffered from tinnitus! Fortunately, nothing else happened.”
It is still unclear whether the incident could have consequences for the gun owner involved.
