Shocking news: After an apartment fire on Saturday in Vienna-Leopoldstadt (we reported), one person died in the flames. The professional fire brigade in Vienna reports this on Sunday. Fortunately, the fire brigade was able to save several residents of the house with the help of a rotating ladder.
Several residents of an apartment complex in Vienna’s 2nd district had called the emergency call to the fire brigade around 5 p.m. on Saturday. Flames were seen on a second-floor balcony. Due to the descriptions and the large number of advertisements, the emergency services have issued an alert level 2.
Independent escape was impossible for many
Before firefighters arrived, residents of the home tried to enter the burning apartment and fight the flames with a fire extinguisher. Unfortunately without success – the fire had already progressed too far at this point. Residents tried to escape from the house, but some were unable to escape on their own.
The firefighters were able to save a total of eight people via the rotating ladder. While extinguishing the fire, one person was located and taken to a safe place. Only the person’s death could be determined.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing
15 people were cared for by the Viennese professional rescue service, which was on the scene with the special operation group, and one child had to be taken to a hospital for further examination. The investigation into the cause of the fire was carried out by the Vienna Criminal Investigation Department.
