According to the storm center, it has been too warm on average every day since then. “In some cases, temperature records were literally shattered, especially around the turn of the year,” says weather expert Konstantin Brandes. The first half of January was therefore about six degrees too mild, he explains, looking at the average climate from 1991 to 2020.
