Russia is currently carrying out its worst wave of attacks on Ukraine since the turn of the year and there is an air raid alert across the country. More than 20 people die after a multi-storey apartment building hits.
Desperate cries for help from buried residents could still be heard hours after the impact, but rescue teams were not always able to remove the rubble in time and rescue the partially seriously injured. In more than twenty cases, help came too late.
Russian missile hit apartment building
The scenes that took place this weekend in the city of Dnipro in the central Ukrainian region of Dnipropetrovsk can hardly be surpassed in terms of horror. A Russian missile hit a high-rise building on Sunday evening, which contained only apartments.
Due to the weekend and the late hour, many residents were home when the projectile exploded and the building, reportedly housing about 200 people in a total of 72 apartments, collapsed.
Dozens killed and injured, including children
The number of victims is correspondingly high: more than 20 people lost their lives, more than 70 others were injured, some seriously – including at least 14 children. And about 30 people were still missing for the time being.
“This is terror,” says one survivor, stunned. “Victory can only be won on the battlefield. Not by bombing helpless civilians.” Air raid sirens had also occasionally sounded in the rest of the country, again, the Russian missiles mainly hit energy infrastructure facilities.
