Not only on Saturday, albeit with sunshine and clear blue skies, the newly opened parliament in Vienna experienced a huge influx – also on Sunday the interest of the population in the refurbished new old House of Lords was undiminished. Even the rain didn’t stop people from stopping by and long waiting times outside.
Already on Saturday, numerous people lined up for hours to get a glimpse of the interior. The opening hours have also been extended by two hours to let those waiting inside.
On Sunday, however, there was no stopping it, although the weather did not play along this time and an umbrella was needed. Again we had to wait up to two and a half hours, and this time the opening hours had been extended. There was tea for those waiting, the Red Cross had brought 4,000 liters.
More open days?
The great interest was in any case not expected in advance, they were once again overwhelmed by the enormous interest. It will soon become clear whether there will be open days again soon, according to Twitter.
Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen was also pleased with the large crowd: “I am very pleased with the enormous interest in the newly renovated parliament – because that too is a sign of living democracy.”
