2022 was quite an adventure and a great challenge for the winemakers of the Txakoli de Getaria Designation of Origin. The drought, heat and abundant sunny days, an unusual situation in Gipuzkoa, kept the winegrowers of this appellation of origin in suspense until the day of the harvest. however, the weather anomaly has paid off and allowed us to get one of the best harvests higher kilo yield per hectare and of higher quality.
In data, the year translates into a 20% increase in production compared to 2021. For example, the Designation of Origin has harvested 4.8 million kilos of grapes and marketed 4.3 million bottles of txakoli.
Production remains predominantly white, although rosé production is increasing mainly for the export market, the latter accounting for 10% of production.

In terms of sales, after overcoming the uncertainty at the beginning of the year due to the pandemic, it was also a good year for Getariako Txakolina. The Designation of Origin has achieved a turnover increase of 13% compared to 2021 and 4 million stamps have been delivered.

In addition, Getaria txakoli continues to gain international recognition with an increase in exports of about 30%.

This new vintage has a slightly higher degree than that of the 2021 vintage, more body and balanced acidity, they explain from the denomination, which brings together 35 wineries in the area.
