Where are mommy and baby? – Placenta and umbilical cord discovered on Danube Island

Date:

A passerby found blood, a placenta and an umbilical cord, as well as a swaddling cloth on Danube Island in Vienna-Floridsdorf on Sunday morning. The woman called police shortly before 8:30 a.m.

According to police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger, the location on the island itself was directly on the waterline at the Floridsdorfer Bridge. The umbilical cord and placenta were clearly of human origin.

Large contingent of search forces
The officials immediately launched a search with a police boat, divers from the professional fire brigade and a corpse and blood-sniffing dog on land. But so far there is no trace of the mother and the newborn.

The fate of the mother and newborn was still unclear on Monday. Should the woman come to the hospital with her child, the police would find out. In that case, hospitals have a reporting obligation. No newborns have been transferred to the baby hatches either.

Information (also anonymous) was requested from the Vienna Criminal Investigation Department, Northern Department, by calling 01/31310-67800 or at a police station.

search for witnesses
According to Haßlinger, police forces and a boat continued to patrol near the site on Monday. However, management hopes that despite the time of day (Sunday morning) and the rainy weather, passersby – possibly runners, cyclists or dog owners – have seen the woman, perhaps with the child, or anything else that could be related to the rather mysterious case. .
