In Bavaria, German police found explosives and other prohibited items during house searches in children’s homes. Two 13-year-olds have been admitted to a psychiatric clinic in connection with the operation, the police reported on Monday.

There was a suspicion that the children had plotted a serious crime, the police said. According to information from the dpa news agency, there would have already been a specific location for a crime, the execution of which would have endangered several people.

The reason for the search in the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district was news on social networks. Which gave indications that two children under the age of criminal responsibility may have been in possession of prohibited items and could be plotting criminal offences.

Home-made explosives seized
During an operation in three apartments, officials secured items that could be home-made explosives or dolls, it said. Airsoft guns, mobile phones and computers were also seized.

According to initial findings, the explosives were in the possession of a family member. The extent to which there are violations of the law on explosives has yet to be clarified. Initially, there were no indications that the next of kin were involved in the plans of the minor children.

Finds were destroyed in a controlled manner
According to the information, the suspected explosive objects were blown up in a controlled manner by Bavarian state police specialists near the site. The more detailed circumstances of the crimes in the chamber have yet to be determined.
