Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is calling on the Organization for Security and Cooperation (OSCE) to do more for Ukrainians forcibly deported to Russia, Kiev said. This needs to be corrected,” Zelenski said in his evening video address.
He had previously met with the Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani. Ukraine accuses Russia of deporting thousands of Ukrainians since the Russian invasion began in February 2022. The US State Department estimates that between 900,000 and 1.6 million Ukrainian citizens, including 260,000 children, were forcibly taken to Russian territory last year.
Russia denies the deportations and claims those arriving are war refugees. In November, Ukraine’s Emergencies Ministry said about 4.8 million Ukrainians, including 712,000 children, had entered Russia since February.
